Iceland is a geological kaleidoscope, still shifting and evolving, with surprises at every compass point: the basalt columns at Studlagil Canyon, seemingly carved by hand; the lava fields of Dimmuborgir, glowing like furnaces; the Tungnaa River carving strange runes on the glacial ice.
