Luxury Vacations in Mongolia
Mongolians think of themselves as "the people who live in felt tents". They were practiced nomads long before Genghis Khan forged the tribes into a nation.
The traditional yurts or gers are still to be seen everywhere – out on the grassland, in odd corners of the capital Ulaanbaatar. And the spirit of the steppe shapes everyday life. Guests are met with kumiss and byaslag (fermented mare’s milk and yak cheese); people gather in stadiums to watch the "three manly sports" – horse-racing, wrestling and archery. Mongolia is changing, but this remains the land of the "eternal blue heavens" – a place where the plains are sometimes filled with galaxies of wildflowers, and the night skies bloom with a million stars.
